Pacific Life Foundation sponsored five $15,000 Life Lessons Scholarships
In honor of Life Insurance Awareness Month, we are pleased to announce the 2019 Life Lessons Pacific Life Scholarship Awards Recipients!
For many young people, the death of a parent brings about adult responsibilities, which come at the expense of other dreams, like a college education. For the second year, the Pacific Life Foundation joined forces with Life Happens to sponsor five $15,000 scholarships to help aid the financial burden for students who have lost a parent, and sometimes both parents, without life insurance. To date, the Foundation has awarded a total of $135,000 in scholarships through this program.
This year’s recipients were selected among nearly 1,600 total applicants from the areas where PL employees live and work: Danayeat Abraha, Kielana Bryant, and Gavin Lundin from California, Mariana Goettemoeller from Nebraska, and MaryRose Hillock from Virginia. Each of the winners was deeply impacted by the loss of their parent without life insurance coverage but are determined to persevere as they enter college this fall.
Pacific Life’s participation was more than just a financial investment in these scholars. More than 100 Pacific Life employees demonstrated Pacific Life’s value of Community by participating in the Scholarship Review Committee to review and score eligible applications this past spring. Each employee volunteered their time to read essays and view videos of 10 applicants from their local area to identify the stories that were the most impactful.
