Hip Hip Hooray for Our Good Guys!
In early February, Pacific Life celebrated the incredible impact our Good Guys volunteers had on our communities in 2019. Recognizing the active and authentic volunteer support of employees who volunteered 5 hours of more, the four receptions took place in Pacific Life’s Lynchburg, VA; Omaha, NE; Aliso Viejo, CA; and Newport Beach, CA offices. The receptions were hosted by Pacific Life’s management team, including Jim Morris, Chairman, President and CEO; Dawn Trautman, Executive Vice President, Life Insurance Division; Brian Woolfolk, Senior Vice President, Institutional Division; and Ray Dinstel, Vice President, Lynchburg Operations. At each reception, employees who contributed more than 25 hours at Good Guys events in 2019 were given special recognition and the Harry G. Bubb Award for Outstanding Community Service was given to the employee in each location who volunteered the highest number of hours.
For the second year in a row, Monica Fajardo, Michele Johnson, and Catherine Paivine were awarded the Bubb Award in our Newport Beach office. And of notable achievement, for the first time, one employee, Monica, volunteered more than 300 hours at Good Guys events in the year!
When asked about her favorite experience volunteering, Monica said “when you have the opportunity to make a difference by feeding the homeless, bathing and comforting rescue dogs, wrapping gifts that will be given to seniors who are alone without families, teaching children about nocturnal animals while dressed in costume at the zoo, helping restore wetlands, and cheering on the athletes during the Special Olympics, it is hard to choose one memorable moment. The variety of experiences available while helping the community is part of the reason I sign up for so many events.”
We also had repeat Bubb winners in our Aliso Viejo office, Will Tran, and in the Omaha, NE office, Mary Tesch. Margaret Ward was the proud recipient of the Bubb Award in the Lynchburg office.
Margaret’s most memorable experience volunteering in 2019 was at the Amazement Square Holiday Festival. “Another coworker and I worked the crafts room where we made snow slime. Just being able to help the children work through the process and to see the pure enjoyment was very rewarding even if we got shaving cream in our hair.”
Thanks to the fantastic participation of all of our Pacific Life volunteers, the Good Guys have become a well-recognized force for good in our communities with more than 13,250 hours contributed at 280 volunteer projects in 2019!
